The dark sides to the fashion world depicted by “Celebrity”

“Celebrity” is making waves on social media for exposing the dark sides of the influencer’s world.

In episode 7, a detail of how Ah Ri obtained a VIP ticket to the Balmain show is gaining special attention.

The ticket was originally owned by Angela (Han Eu Ddeum) and was only transferred to Ah Ri when she knew about Angela’s deep, dark secrets.

Eoline revealed only fashion insiders such as stylists, editors, and celebrities could receive such an invitation from a fashion house.

How does one get into a fashion show?

Tickets are also given to sponsors, business partners, or VIPs. It is an unspoken rule in the fashion world. If a common person wants to pay to get into a show, they have to pay different prices for different seats. At Fashion Week, a ticket can range from 100 to 550 USD. A front-row seat can vary from 600 to 1,000 USD. The upper limit is usually applied to major fashion events such as the New York Fashion Week.

There are also tickets on the black market every Fashion Week season. A seller can sell more than 2,000 tickets for two nights.

In Angela’s case, she must have splurged a large amount on the ticket or invested a whopping amount on Balmain designs to get invited.

Do front-row seats matter?

At every fashion show, the front-row seat signifies power as only the VIP guests can sit in those positions. There is a hierarchy behind seating arrangements where only the most powerful and influential can sit at the front.

An in-depth study from the University of Southern California revealed that famous stars are magnets that raise the public’s attention to an event. Their appearances can directly impact an event’s coverage and purchase volume. Rihanna was paid 97,500 USD in appearance fees to attend the 2013 Chanel Fall/Winter Show.

How about outfits?

Outfits to a fashion event are an essential part of one’s appearance. Despite the harsh showbiz scene, Ah Ri manages to borrow the latest designer’s clothing from Balmain Collection, drawing looks of envy from other show attendants.

To get designer clothes, fashion zealots have to fight tooth and nail to get their hands on such outfits. If one is the ambassador or the muse of a brand, they will receive designer clothes before a show starts. Some are granted the privilege to choose their favorite one.

Fan Bing Bing was once invited by designer Giambattista Valli to select her favorite Haute Couture design and was arranged to sit beside Anna Wintour in the front-row line.

Clearly, it is no easy task to look flawless at a fashion show, let alone sitting among giants of the field. Therefore, the looks of envy that audiences saw on “Celebrity” is not an exaggeration, but an accurate depiction of the real-life fashion scene.
