According to foreign media, including CNN, on the 29th (local time), David Cohen, Deputy Director of the CIA, revealed at the annual National Security Conference that the group planning the terror attack at Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna intended to kill tens of thousands of concertgoers.
The director also mentioned that the CIA and its partner provided intelligence related to the group, which is connected to the Islamic State (IS), and enabled Austrian authorities to arrest the suspects.
Earlier, Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert, part of her “The Eras” tour, was canceled due to potential security threats. The concert was scheduled to take place at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, but all three shows were canceled.
Afterward, Taylor shared her thoughts on her social media following the conclusion of the European leg of the Eras Tour.
“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating”, the pop star wrote, adding, “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
