“Nothing has ever gone according to plan over these 19 years.” With these words, BIGBANG‘s Taeyang candidly summed up the iconic group’s tumultuous journey during a recent video on YouTube channel ‘ZIP대성’, released on August 22.
Celebrating their 19th debut anniversary, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung reunited for an intimate house party episode, inviting close friends like CL, Go Kyung-pyo, Son Na-eun, and SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi. The nostalgic atmosphere was filled with laughter and heartfelt moments, but Taeyang’s remarks carried a deeper undertone.
In the video, Taeyang confessed: “Over the course of our 19 years in the music industry, not a single thing has gone according to plan.” Reflecting on the group’s unpredictable history, he added, “Even today, nothing went as planned either. And maybe that’s what best represents our 19th anniversary.”
The three members then shared a warm moment, exchanging matching bracelets prepared by Daesung to celebrate G-Dragon’s birthday—an act that further emphasized their lasting friendship.
BIGBANG originally debuted in 2006 under YG Entertainment as a five-member group composed of G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, T.O.P, and Seungri. Over the years, however, the group faced significant setbacks. In 2019, Seungri withdrew from the entertainment industry following the “Burning Sun” scandal. T.O.P, who had previously faced legal consequences for marijuana use, officially left the group in 2023.
While Taeyang did not mention any former members by name, many fans interpreted his words as a diplomatic yet meaningful nod to the turbulence and transformation the group has endured.
Despite the shadows of the past, the tone of the gathering was one of appreciation and brotherhood. Through spontaneous laughter, heartfelt reflections, and symbolic gifts, the remaining BIGBANG members demonstrated their enduring bond—one that has weathered years of change, chaos, and unplanned moments.
