According to industry sources, the album has already been recorded and is slated for release in October. In addition to the album, T.O.P is set to shoot multiple music videos under the creative direction of Chae Kyoung Sun, the renowned art director and production designer behind Squid Game. Chae is a decorated figure in the industry, having won prestigious accolades including the Art Directors Guild Awards (2022, 2025) and a Primetime Emmy in 2022 for Outstanding Production Design.

Rumors of T.O.P’s return had been circulating for some time. In November 2024, the rapper hinted at his plans via Instagram, responding with a simple “2025” when asked about future solo activities. The confirmation came in June this year during an international press interview for Squid Game 2, where T.O.P affirmed that his solo project would indeed be released in 2025.

Since parting ways with YG Entertainment and officially exiting BIGBANG in 2021, T.O.P has remained unsigned. Although speculation linked him to a potential deal with Kakao Entertainment—one of South Korea’s largest entertainment conglomerates—the company has denied any ongoing negotiations.

The upcoming album marks a significant milestone in T.O.P’s career comeback, especially after years marked by personal and professional turbulence. In 2016, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison (suspended for two years) for marijuana use during his mandatory military service. His remaining service was converted to an alternative form of public service, and the scandal led to a temporary retirement announcement, which he later walked back. He made his acting return earlier this year with a role in Squid Game 2.

In a candid January 2025 interview, T.O.P reflected on his journey:

“In my twenties, I was fortunate to receive so much love, but I also made serious mistakes that left me broken. I still feel ashamed and constantly remind myself to reflect on those errors,” he said.

Yet, music remains a source of strength. “Every time I step into the studio, I feel recharged. I’ve been working relentlessly, writing countless songs—and now I believe it’s time to finally share them with the world.”

With his new solo album on the horizon, fans are eager to see what this next chapter holds for one of K-pop’s most enigmatic and controversial figures.
