“Doona!” is threatening the top spots of “My Dearest 2” on the drama and cast buzzworthy rankings
According to Good Data Corporation on October 24th, “Doona!” ranked No.1 in the TV-OTT drama buzzworthy ranking in the first week of its release. The drama recorded high scores in news, VON (Voice on Netizen), and SNS categories, surpassing No.2 “My Dearest Part 2” by 1.8%. In terms of search responses, viewers in their 10s and 20s accounted for the highest percentages.
“My Dearest” fell to second place after dominating the top spots for several weeks. However, it still tops the rankings of drama + non-drama (excluding OTT) popularity charts. The drama went down one spot in the SNS category and was searched for the most by people in their 30s to 50s. The male-female ratio for “My Dearest” showed 22%:77%.
This is the fourth Netflix series that achieved No.1 in the buzzworthy rankings this year, following “The Glory”, “The Glory 2”, and “Mask Girl”. Playing the role of retired K-pop idol singer Doona, Suzy drew keen attention with her high synchronization with the character in the original work. The singer-actress perfectly pulled off the complicated emotional lines of Doona, which may sound somewhat uncomfortable, with her delicate and passionate acting. The feeling of wanting attention from people but not trusting anyone was excellently delivered through Suzy’s lonely eyes in smoking scenes. Even in the scenes where Doona throws things and swears, viewers still feel like this character is pitiful and they want to protect her.
It is not exaggerated to say that “Doona!” is a video pictorial of Suzy. She wows viewers from the first scene she appears until the end. It’s hard to imagine someone else except for Suzy who can portray the colorful transformation of Doona. Suzy’s charms make this campus romance become more captivating. This is also the reason why “Doona!” was able to beat “My Dearest” to become the most popular drama as soon as it premiered.
Although “My Dearest” failed to protect its top spot, Ahn Eun-jin and Nam-goong Min continued to rank 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the cast buzzworthy rankings for the second consecutive week. Joining Part 2 as the new character, Lee Chung-ah also rose from No.27 to No.6. Meanwhile, Suzy and Yang Se-jong of “Doona!” ranked No.3 and No.6, respectively.
“Doona!” and “My Dearest” are having a fierce battle. The important point is how long will the Netflix series “Doona!” maintain its top spot since it already released all episodes at once. It is expected that “My Dearest” will rise again in the next broadcasts.
