Suzy to represent Korea as global ambassador of traditional hanbok

Idol and actress Suzy will be the representative face for a project geared at the global promotion of Korean traditional wear, hanbok. 

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation recently announced a project titled “Hanbok Wave”, which aims at the global promotion of Korean traditional wear, hanbok. 

On June 15th, Korea JoongAng Daily reported that Suzy will become the ambassador of this project. Accordingly, the idol-actress will don new hanboks from various creative designers, and promote them through various means, including billboards in the New York Times Squares.

Previously, a photoshoot of Suzy for 1st Look was recognized as the “epitome standard of hanbok photos”. 

Meanwhile, the Korea Craft & Design Foundation claimed that their aim is to create hanboks with both Korean and global appeal. 

In the project, 6 selected companies will receive funding to design 10 hanboks each, which are personalized for Suzy yet keeping their tradition and forms. The designs will be unveiled in the second half of 2023 through a promotion event.
