Suzy & Park Bo-gum’s “Wonderland” Failed: Not Even 1/6 of Break-even Point

On June 10, an article was published on the Korea forum “theqoo”, revealing the ticket sales status of Suzy, Park Bo-gum, Tang Wei, Choi Woo-sik, and Jung Yu-mi’s film “Wonderland”.

According to the article, the ticket sales status of the star-studded move is as follows:

  • 2024-06-05. Day 1 (Wednesday) 82,875 people
  • 2024-06-06. Day 2 (Thursday) 136,228 people
  • 2024-06-07. Day 3 (Fri) 66,840 people
  • 2024-06-08. Day 4 (Sat) 97,871 people
  • 2024-06-09-. Day 5 (Sunday) 72,949 people

This means that the cumulative number of viewers in the first week of release for “Wonderland” was 468,759, leading to an accrued profit of 713 million won (approx 517,000 USD).

However, in order for “Wonderland” to break-even, it needs to sell a total of 2.9 million tickets, meaning that in the first week, the movie has seen lackluster numbers and failed to reach even 1/6 of the break-even point.

With Disney’s “Inside Out” 2 being released next week, “Wonderland” will be in a dire situation and may struggle to even make the 1 million viewers mark.

Below are some comments from netizens regarding the film and why it is not doing well:

  • It was really boring.. I think there’s a reason it wasn’t released for 5 years and was delayed
  • To be honest, the characters are all too flat except for Tang Wei. Park Bo-gum’s character was also a bit… There were a lot of parts I didn’t understand.
  • This movie doesn’t even attract a lot of viewers, but the poor reviews from critics seem to be an even bigger blow.
  • It’s really boring and it must have been made with a lot of effort. Only Tang Wei is okay and the actors’ acting is not very good.
  • I saw it on the preview day, and I thought, wow… it’s going to be a disaster. It’s not even fun, but the quality of the work is even worse.
