Super Junior’s Choi Si-won And Rainbow’s Cho Hyun-young Denied Involvement In Scam Coin Controversy

The "Scam Coin" controversy, which has turned the YouTube world into a mess, is spreading to the entertainment industry.

While popular YouTubers, such as Kim Won-hoon, Cho Jin-se, and star-studded Na Seon-wook, denied their involvement in the coin fraud, Super Junior’s Choi Si-won and Rainbow’s Cho Hyun-young also denied the allegations.

These two idols were suspected of being involved in the so-called “scam coin.” “Scam coin” is a cryptocurrency for the purpose of fraud. The scammers go into hiding after receiving investments in listing cryptocurrency, or create and list a fake cryptocurrency exchange and then turn the cryptocurrency into a piece of tissue. When a Korean company was suspected of issuing a “Scam Coin” that illegally attracts investment and those who were speculated to be close to this company were speculated to be related to the fraud.

The Korea Youth Commission, which was launched to propose youth-related policy to the government and the National Assembly, issued Youth Pay, a payment system like Zero Pay, in March 2022, and also issued a coin to list it on an overseas exchange of virtual assets. However, the chart of the coin plunged vertically after listing, and it was eventually delisted. Amid the recent turmoil in the YouTube world over “Scam Coin” aimed at fraud, suspicions have arisen that Youth Pay is also such a “Scam Coin.”

Choi Si-won was suspected of involvement when Youth Pay announced that it would appoint Choi as its public relations ambassador. Choi Si-won said on his YouTube channel on February 13th, “I have nothing to do with the controversy over Youth Pay of the Korean Youth Commission,” adding, “I have never been appointed as an ambassador. I have given a commendation at an award ceremony organized by the Korean Youth Commission, but this is only for the purpose of the award to serve as a model for young people, and has nothing to do with the current controversy.

Cho Hyun-young was embroiled in suspicions because she served as an honorary ambassador for the Korea Youth Commission, which issued Youth Pay.

Cho Hyun-young said, “At the time, the Youth Commission was said to be a group supported by the National Assembly, and if so, I only thought it would help my image because it was a public interest, but I never expected that Youth Pag would be related to fraud or scams.

Regarding her appointment as an honorary ambassador for Youth Pay, not the Korea Youth Commission, she said, “I never imagined that Youth Pay would be related to fraud in the future, and I didn’t take any particular issue with it because it was a project conducted by the committee. It’s late, but I’m going to request a correction now.

Regarding the allegation that she was close to people related to Scam Coin, the idol said, “I’ve seen him a few times at meetings with other acquaintances and asked him to take a picture, but we’re not close enough to meet separately.”
