Sunye’s untold story about her withdrawal from Wonder Girls… “Between the public and me, there was a misunderstanding”
Singer Sunye looked back on the moment she left Wonder Girls.
On Channel A’s ‘Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center’, which was broadcast on the 2nd, Sunye, a former Wonder Girls singer, attended and met Dr. Oh Eun-young.
After getting married in 2013, Sunye became a mother at the age of 25 in a foreign country. She stopped her Wonder Girls career at a young age and started getting married and raising children in Canada, but she has lived with the thought of “It’s okay.”
Oh Eun-young, who heard this, made a puzzled expression and asked, “Isn’t it really hard to raise three children in a foreign country?” Then, Oh Eun-young pointed out, “Raising a child in a foreign country is a difficult situation for anyone, but she is denying all the difficult situations. Also, she keeps repeating the phrase ‘because it’s my choice’.”
Sunye nodded at Dr. Oh Eun-young’s sharp criticism. She recalled the past days when she tried to take responsibility and solve everything on her own.
Sunye confessed, “Even when I stopped my activities with Wonder Girls… I was very confused with many questions inside my mind. As an idol, I had a great influence on teenagers. I was very cautious that I might have a bad influence on them when I sang and did interviews. My father and grandfather passed away when I was on my way to success. After going through two funerals, I started to think about my life. Since I had so many questions about my life, I felt empty and wondered ‘Is this the happiness I wanted?’. I felt that being more famous and richer wouldn’t make me any happier. As a result, performing on the stage didn’t make me feel happy as it used to. That’s why I thought of taking a rest.”
In addition, Sunye shared, “As the situation got worse, I felt that my worries and feelings when performing were affecting the members negatively”. Dr. Oh Eun-young then asked, “Why did you choose the most extreme method of leaving the group?”.
In response, Sunye said, “There was a misunderstanding when I announced my withdrawal. At that time, the public misunderstood the situation that other members could not carry out any activities because of me. In fact, Wonder Girls was having a break for the preparation of a band. I think I should have made an official position myself so that the members wouldn’t have been hurt. I think the public wanted me to make that clear.”
