The issue, initially sparked by a DUI incident, has now escalated to allegations of negligence in his duties.
On August 16th, a post appeared on an online community board stating that a complaint had been filed with the Military Manpower Administration via the National Petition System, requesting a thorough investigation into Suga’s alleged negligence in duty. The complainant urged the administration to investigate what role Suga played as the “group leader” at the Public Service Training Center, and whether he truly deserved the “commendation certificate” he received for his supposedly outstanding work performance.
The complaint arose following a whistleblower account by an individual identified as A, who claimed to have attended basic training with Suga. A’s post appeared on the application used by public service workers called “Public Human”, describing their time at the Public Service Training Center in Boeun County, North Chungcheong Province from November 20th to 24th last year.
A claimed that although Suga was appointed as the group leader, he hardly participated in the training sessions over the five days, stating, “The instructor even hinted that it was too much. Suga would wake up, nod his head without understanding anything, then go back to using his phone before falling asleep again. His group’s participation rate was the lowest. He gave off the vibe of a half-hearted troublemaker from the beginning of the school year.”
Following these claims, a formal complaint was lodged requesting an investigation into Suga’s attitude during his service. A then added another post on “Public Human”, reiterating the allegations, stating, “If it were all lies, I would have already deleted the post and disappeared. What I’m questioning is how he knew he would receive ‘special leave’ for his role as group leader, yet showed such poor participation, even causing embarrassment to the instructor.“
After A’s revelations, another complaint was submitted, stating, “If the whistleblower’s claims are true, it’s likely that Suga received five days of special leave from his service organization after receiving a commendation from the training center. If it’s found that the commendation was obtained illegally or unfairly, I strongly urge for the special leave to be immediately canceled, and if Suga has already used it, that it be deducted from his annual leave.” The Military Manpower Administration has yet to issue a statement regarding the complaints.
Meanwhile, Suga was caught by police on the evening of August 6th while riding an electric scooter near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.227%, well above the license revocation level of 0.08%. The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with some even calling for Suga to leave the group.
However, KBS has not yet decided whether to impose a broadcast ban on Suga. According to KBS, the decision to convene a Broadcast Review Committee regarding Suga is still pending. Given that the investigation is ongoing and Suga is currently a public service worker, which prevents him from engaging in entertainment activities, KBS stated that this is not an issue that needs immediate discussion or action. A KBS representative told Star News, “Since Suga is currently serving his alternative military duty, he isn’t involved in any programs. Moreover, with the police investigation still underway, we need to wait for the results.”
The police are expected to summon Suga for questioning soon.
