“Suchwita” BTS Jin, “We really thought about disbanding the group in 2018 and just wanted to let it all go”

BTS member Jin explained the reason he mentioned the group’s disbandment at an award ceremony back in 2018.

On June 10th, Jin, who is currently fulfilling military duties, appeared on the new episode of Suga’s content “Suchwita” uploaded on BTS’s official Youtube channel “BANGTANTV”.

Jin filmed this “Suchwita” episode before he enlisted in December last year. It is said that the video was released in the warm month of June at the request of the artist.

In the middle of the filming, J-Hope showed up as a surprise guest. Suga then recalled the time when BTS received an award at “MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards)” in 2018. Suga said, “Hobi cried. Didn’t you cry, too?”. Jin responded, “You crybabies”.

Back then at the award ceremony, Jin said, “It was really tough for all of us mentally earlier this year. We even talked about whether to disband or not and gave it a lot of thought…but we pulled ourselves together, and I’m so glad that we were able to receive such an amazing award”, adding “I’d like to thank our members for pulling together”.

Jin shared, “That was when we were promoting ‘FAKE LOVE’ and every month, we only had a day and a half… I got really mad over that half. For about three months, we only had a day off each month”, adding “The agency said we had to work like that in order to make it and we knew that it wasn’t entirely wrong”.

He confessed, “But mentally and physically, it was too hard on us and we wanted to just let it all go. We were like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. Let’s stop here’”, adding “I just wanted to be honest about how we had felt but when our fans heard that… I’m sure it could’ve sounded negative because it’s not an easy thing to talk about. But it was in the past already and it was true that we had thought about it. Everything turned out okay in the end so that’s why I just talked about it later.”

Suga also confessed, “I don’t know if we were really desperate and gritting out teeth back then, but I feel like out of all the performances we ever did, we did a lot that could be part of a highlight film”. J-Hope added, “Even until 2018, I thought we were just underdogs”.

Suga continued, “I think we need something like that though”, adding “Of course, it was tough at that time, but because we got through that, we were able to do what we did”. He shared, “What I love about our members is that when we’re given good content or something that good, we all voluntarily do it”, adding “We all came to practice voluntarily if someone had something on their schedule, they’d come out an hour early to practice. The fact that everyone does that without any hesitation and enjoys it. It’s just so awesome. I just feel really lucky to have met you all”.

Hearing that, J-Hope agreed, “I always feel the same way, too. To be frank, we’re not a team that made it just because one person did really well. We’re here because we all worked really hard.”

Suga expressed absolute belief in the members, saying “We believe in each other. We don’t think that one of us won’t do well. When I ask a member to feature on a song or do something, that thought never crosses my mind. Everyone has a sense of pride.”
