At the Squid Game Season 3 press conference held on June 9 at Seoul Dragon City, director Hwang Dong-hyuk officially confirmed that the global Netflix hit will not extend into a fourth season.

“There are no plans to produce Season 4,” said Hwang Dong-hyuk. “This was a mutual decision made with Netflix while preparing Season 3.”

He elaborated that the third season is designed to bring the series to a natural conclusion, “Once you watch Season 3, you’ll see that although a continuation might be possible, it feels complete without needing a fourth installment.”

However, Hwang Dong-hyuk left the door open for a return to the Squid Game universe in a different form.

“That doesn’t mean I’ll never return to Squid Game. I’ve been considering the idea of a spin-off,” he said. “Sometimes I wonder, ‘What were those characters doing at this moment?’ and I want to explore those stories.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that his next project will be a feature film, not another Squid Game season, but emphasized that if the opportunity arises, he is open to revisiting the world he created.

Squid Game Season 3 continues the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who reenters the deadly competition with a personal mission after the loss of his closest friend. The series also follows the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and other survivors as they face their final destinies within the brutal game.
