“Squid Game” Season 2 production confirmed… “Gi-hun and the Front Man return”

“Squid Game”, which wrote a global box office myth, is returning with Season 2.

On June 13th, Netflix Korea officially announced the confirmation of the production of “Squid Game” Season 2.

In the poster and video released together, you can see the number “2” engraved on the eyes that appear to be the tagger doll Young-hee of the game “Red light green light” in “Squid Game”.

Even the phrase “Red light green light” that curdled viewers’ blood in Season 1 appeared, creating tension.

A message from director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the producer of “Squid Game”, was also delivered.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who wrote, directed and produced “Squid Game”, thanked fans around the world and announced, “And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming.”

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk added, “The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

In Season 1, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun and Gong Yoo respectively played the roles of Gi-hun, the Front Man and the man in the suit with ddakji. Attention is being paid to who will provide the ultimate feeling of immersion in which role in Season 2.

Meanwhile, “Squid Game”, which was released in September last year, tells the story of people who risk their lives participating in a mysterious survival game in order to become the last winner of 45.6 billion won.

According to the streaming analytics company Flix Patrol, “Squid Game” spent 46 nonconsecutive days in the top spot and gathered 1.65 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days since its release, making it the most successful series in Netflix’s history.

The series won Breakthrough Series – Over 40 Minutes at the 31st Gotham Awards and Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for O Yeong-su at the 31st Golden Globe Awards, with both making history as the first Korean drama/actor to win in those categories.

“Squid Game” also made SAG Awards history as the first non-English-language TV series to win acting prizes: Lee Jung-Jae won male actor and Jung Ho-yeon won female actor in drama categories.
