On May 28, a new episode of the YouTube channel “If I Open My Mouth” was released under the title “Plastic Surgery, Rent, Dating Rumors, Male Friends, Drunk Woman Rumors… I’m Explaining Everything | EP.17 Soyou | The True Man Show .”

During the episode, Soyou addressed the controversy that emerged after she publicly shared an experience in which she believed she had been subjected to racial discrimination while traveling on a flight in the United States.

Previously, Soyou claimed that she requested a Korean-speaking flight attendant while trying to ask about meal service timing but found herself in a situation she felt was discriminatory. However, the situation took a different turn after a netizen claiming to have been on the same flight posted an eyewitness account online.

The individual alleged that Soyou had boarded the plane while intoxicated and wrote, “She said she was too tired to eat, but later complained about it. You can’t just call that racial discrimination.” The post quickly fueled controversy across online communities.

Recalling the incident, Soyou said, “After I uploaded my post, I was busy filming and didn’t realize how much attention it was getting. Then someone uploaded a post claiming that I had boarded the plane drunk, and suddenly the entire situation changed.”

She went on to explain the context behind her original request. “The first meal served on flights is usually delicious, but sometimes I miss it. I was told they couldn’t serve food that had been sitting for seven hours. It also varies depending on the flight, so I always ask. I wanted to ask about that, but I couldn’t explain such a detailed situation in English, so I requested a Korean staff member.”

Soyou continued, “Then security suddenly came over. At first, I was shocked and scared. But even the security staff could see that I was completely fine, so they simply left. That was the end of it. Later, a Korean staff member came and explained that there had been a communication error.” She added that she later went to the restroom, where another misunderstanding occurred.

“The restroom was located in a spot where you could clearly see the crew area when the door opened. A flight attendant pushed a cart through and asked me to step into the crew area because of the cart, so I did. Then another crew member suddenly started shouting.”

Soyou explained that another employee eventually arrived and clarified the situation. “That was when I suddenly felt overwhelmed and upset. Afterward, I wrote a complaint card saying I felt uncomfortable. I never expected Delta to actually send an apology letter.”

The singer also addressed the aftermath of the controversy, revealing her frustration over how public perception shifted because of the anonymous post.

“The person who uploaded that post deleted their account and disappeared,” she said. “Because of that one post, I suddenly became labeled as a drunken troublemaker and a power-tripping passenger.”

Soyou concluded by firmly denying the allegations once more, emphasizing, “I was not intoxicated when I boarded that flight.”
