On December 31, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office announced that Song Mino was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Military Service Act. Alongside him, an official identified as Mr. A, the head of the Mapo Community Convenience Facility, was also indicted without detention for allegedly being aware of Song’s negligent service and failing to intervene.
Song Mino is accused of failing to properly report for duty and performing his alternative military service insincerely between March 2023 and December 2024. During this period, he was assigned as a public service worker at the Mapo Facilities Management Corporation and later at the Mapo Community Convenience Facility. Prosecutors allege that on days he did appear at work, he stayed only briefly, spent much of the time reclining while playing games, and then left early.

The police began investigating the case in December 2024 after receiving a request from the Military Manpower Administration. The investigation included a review of Song’s work attendance records and communication logs. Song Mino appeared for police questioning on three separate occasions and reportedly admitted to most of the allegations.
Mr. A is accused of granting special treatment to Song Mino. According to the prosecution, after transferring from the Mapo Facilities Management Corporation to the Mapo Community Convenience Facility, Mr. A allegedly arranged for Song to be reassigned to the same facility within a month, providing him with preferential treatment during his service period.
The case now moves to trial, drawing public attention amid ongoing scrutiny over fairness and accountability in alternative military service.
