Song Joong Ki’s “My Name is Loh Kiwan” Set to Release in March

According to a report from SpoTV News on the 31st, Netflix has started promotions for the release of “My Name is Loh Kiwan” in March. Currently included in bus advertisements alongside the February release “Murderer’s Dilemma,” the content covers until the March release, and “My Name is Loh Kiwan” is currently in the process of coordinating its release schedule in March, with the likelihood of being released on Independence Movement Day.

“My Name is Loh Kiwan” depicts the meeting, separation, and love between Gwan, a North Korean defector who arrives in Belgium with the last hope of his life, and Marie, a woman who has lost the meaning of her life. It is based on the novel “Meeting Logiwan” by author Jo Hae-jin.

Song Joong-ki is expected to undergo another drastic transformation in “My Name is Loh Kiwan,” portraying the role of Gwan who, having left everything behind, struggles to gain recognition as a ‘refugee’ in the unfamiliar land of Belgium in distant Europe. Anticipation is high for the new aspects he will showcase, following his intense transformation in “Vincenzo” last year.

Especially, based on the released advertising images, “My Name is Loh Kiwan” seems to be rated as not suitable for youth audiences. As Netflix productions often have unrestricted expression levels, attention is drawn to what intense story the movie will depict.

Notably, Song Joong-ki spent an extended period in Hungary for the filming of “My Name is Loh Kiwan” in early last year. After announcing marriage and pregnancy news with his wife, Katie Louise Saunders, right after the filming of “Logiwan,” he went to Rome, Italy, for the birth of their son. Therefore, the film holds special significance as a project they worked on together during this unique time.

Director Kim Hee-jin, who also wrote the screenplay for “My Name is Loh Kiwan,” won awards for her short film “Math Travel” at the Jeonju International Film Festival, Seoul Independent Film Festival, and the Asian Short Film Festival. Along with a strong supporting cast including Choi Sung-eun, Cho Hyun-chul, Kim Sung-ryung, Lee Il-hwa, Lee Sang-hee, and Seo Hyun-woo, the film is expected to deliver a high level of immersion with compelling performances.
