Song Joong Ki transforms into North Korean defector after marriage announcement

After the announcement of his marriage and his wife’s pregnancy, Song Joong Ki will make an appearance on the big screen.

On February 7th, Netflix confirmed the production of the movie “Ro Ki Wan” and unveiled a solid casting lineup, consisting of Song Joong Ki, Choi Sung Eun, Jo Han Chul, Kim Sung Ryung, Lee Il Hwa, Lee Sang Hee và Seo Hyun Woo.

“Ro Ki Wan” is a film about the meeting, separation, and love between Ki Wan, a North Korean defector who arrives in Belgium with the last hope of life, and Marie, a woman who has lost her reason for living.

Ro Ki Wan cast

In this movie, Song Joong Ki will deliver a new and unique appearance as Ro Ki Wan, a North Korean defector who struggles to be recognized as a refugee in Belgium. Having left his home country with nothing, Ki Wan could only rely on himself and work his way up from the very bottom in a faraway land.

Meanwhile, Choi Sung Eun assumes the role of Marie, a Korean marksman with Belgian nationality. Unlike Ro Ki Wan, who came to Belgium to live, Marie lost her reason to continue. As such, Song Joong Ki and Choi Sung Eun will play characters in extreme yet opposite situations, raising curiosity about their chemistry.

Ro Ki-Wan cast

It is known that Jo Han Chul will act as Marie’s father, whilst Kim Sung Ryung will play the role of Ro Ki Wan’s mother. In addition, Lee Il Hwa will transform into Marie’s mother, while Lee Sang Hee plays Seon Ju, a Korean-Chinese who Ro Gi Kan meets at a factory in Belgium. Seo Hyun Woo will appear as Ro Ki Wan’s maternal uncle, completing the powerful cast lineup of “Ro Ki Wan”.

Such a solid cast will add depth to Ro Ki Wan’s long journey for freedom, making it hard to not look forward to “Ro Ki Wan”. For director Kim Hee Jin, who wrote the screenplay himself, “Ro Ki Wan” is his first feature film debut, and so is expected to deliver his signature portrayal of detailed emotions and delicate drama between characters. The film is also produced by Yong Film, which previously created hits such as “The Handmaiden”, “The Call”, “20th Century Girl”, and “Believer”.

As Song Joong Ki’s first return after his marriage announcement, “Ro Ki Wan” is expected to open a new chapter for the actor, and further solidify his career.
