On November 21, Song Ji-hyo‘s agency Nexus E&M, through its legal representative at Namsan Law Firm, stated that they had received an email mentioning Song Ji-hyo’s father and his alleged financial issues. The email included claims that the company her father operates is in a state of default. It also came with a formal inquiry letter and even mock-up designs of banners with provocative phrases like: “Celebrity’s parent known for ferry business on TV!”

The agency emphasized that this was not a mere inquiry. “The act of sending such banner drafts can be interpreted as an attempt to publicly display these in front of our office, aiming to defame Song Ji-hyo and damage the company’s business operations,” the statement said. “Such actions are legally punishable and constitute criminal behavior.”

Nexus E&M further clarified that the matter was not addressed to Song Ji-hyo’s father directly but to the agency itself, and that the nature of the contact clearly surpassed socially acceptable boundaries. They declared that any further attempts to threaten, pressure, or tarnish the image of their artist or disrupt company operations would be met with swift and firm legal consequences, including potential criminal complaints and civil claims.

Song Ji-hyo father debt allegation response

Previously, Song Ji-hyo had mentioned her family on Running Man, revealing that her parents ran a passenger ferry business in Tongyeong. When fellow cast members jokingly referred to her as coming from a wealthy “sea spoon” background and questioned whether she owned the ferries, she clarified: “My parents are my parents, and I am me. That’s why I don’t talk much about them.”
