Son Ye-jin Starts “Acting Career’s Chapter 2” After Marriage and Childbirth “I Want to Take Responsibility for My Face”
Son Ye-jin has been selected as the protagonist of the special actor exhibition at the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN)
Celebrating her 24th debut anniversary, Son Ye-jin reflected on her intense acting career. Now, as a wife and mother, she also faces new changes. In her 40s, Son Ye-jin expressed her desire to become an actress who can take responsibility for her own face, aiming to continue acting more leisurely but for a long time.
On July 5th, a press conference and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival’s special actor exhibition “Unique. Son Ye-jin” were held at the Culture Hall of Hyundai Department Store Jung-dong Branch in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Son Ye-jin shared her thoughts on being selected as the protagonist of the special exhibition, “I thought it was the realm of seniors. I wondered if I was an actress deserving of a special exhibition. But upon reflection, I realized I had aged quite a bit. It is an immense honor and privilege to be chosen as the actress for a special exhibition following my seniors.“
Son Ye-jin married Hyun Bin in March 2022 and gave birth to a son in November that year. She said, “A lot has happened personally over the past two years. It feels like chapter one of my acting career has ended, and I’m entering chapter two. This special exhibition at the Bucheon Film Festival has given me an opportunity to look back on my past. It seems like a chance to organize and leap forward again, and I am grateful for that. I don’t want to set limits on myself anymore. I’m curious about what kind of acting I can show you all.“
Son Ye-jin also expressed her enthusiasm for future activities. She shared, “Each work felt like a 100-meter sprint. I struggled within it. I want to look at my acting career more long-term. ‘What if this work doesn’t do well?’ I had a lot of stress like that. It was a sense of responsibility. If I only choose good works, the number of times I can show you will decrease. Movies can do well or not. I want to act as much as possible, often and for a long time, and I want to be an actress who stays with you for a long time.” She emphasized, “I want to take responsibility for my face. As I age, I want to show you acting that fits that age naturally.”
Meanwhile, this year’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival opened on July 4th and runs until July 14th.
