“Son Ye-jin is more easy-going than Hyun Bin”…”The couple of the century” revealed by “Confidential Assignment 2” director
Director Lee Seok-hoon expressed his feelings about working with actors Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin. He worked with Son Ye-jin in “The Pirates” and Hyun Bin in “Confidential Assignment 2”.
Director Lee Seok-hoon conducted a video online interview with My Daily on the afternoon of Sep 5th. We talked ahead of the release of the movie “Confidential Assignment 2: International” (hereinafter “Confidential Assignment 2”) on Sep 7th.
“Confidential Assignment 2” is the sequel to “Confidential Assignment”, which caused a sensation in theaters by attracting 7.81 million viewers in 2017 and ranking in the top 3 at the box office that year.
It is “Confidential Assignment 2” where director Lee Seok-hoon grabbed the megaphone and returned with a more upgraded fun as well as ultra-luxury scale. He is a “Chungmuro box office maker” that attracted 8.66 million and 7.75 million viewers with “The Pirates” (2014) and “The Himalayas” (2015), respectively.
“Confidential Assignment 2” is a film about the unpredictable triangular cooperation investigation between North Korean detective Im Cheol-ryung (Hyun Bin), South Korean detective Kang Jin-tae (Yoo Hae-jin) and FBI agent Jack (Daniel Henney), who unite for each other’s purposes.
On this day, director Lee Seok-hoon said, “‘Confidential Assignment 2’ was my first work with Hyun Bin. I met the staff who did ‘Confidential Assignment’ and heard a lot about Hyun Bin. I tried to know in advance Hyun Bin’s usual shooting style and what he considers important. After meeting him privately and discussing the scenario together, I realized that Hyun Bin is a very detailed actor. He prepared meticulously, in detail and weighed all the options. He’s the type of person who tries to do everything himself without a stand-in.”
In particular, director Lee Seok-hoon worked with both Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin. When asked how he felt about this, he replied, “Somehow, the two became the couple of the century. As a person who worked with both of them, I personally thought that they would go well together even though I met them in different works.”
Director Lee Seok-hoon smilingly confessed, “Son Ye-jin has a more easy-going side, while Hyun Bin has a detailed and delicate side. I think that’s why they’re meant for each other. Regarding Hyun Bin’s appearance in ‘Confidential Assignment 2’ this time, I didn’t receive a separate contact from Son Ye-jin , but I met her at the wedding and at other places.
