On December 26, the official YouTube channel of the Blue Dragon Film Awards released a video titled “[Blue Dragon Interview] Best Actress Son Ye-jin: ‘A Dream About Being Pregnant With Twins? I Even Looked Up the Meaning.’” The video featured Son Ye-jin’s post-award interview following her big win.
Son Ye-jin took home the Best Actress trophy for her performance in No Choice, expressing disbelief and overwhelming emotion. “It feels incredibly touching, like I’m dreaming,” she said. “Even now, it still doesn’t feel real.”
She went on to share an intriguing anecdote from just days before the ceremony. “A few days before the festival, my manager told me she dreamed that I was pregnant with twins,” Son Ye-jin recalled. “The next day, she dreamed she won the lottery. I tend to believe in dreams, so I looked up the interpretations and it turned out both dreams meant that I would have good luck.”
Laughing, Son Ye-jin added, “That’s why I think our family received the Blue Dragon trophies together.”
On the same night, her husband Hyun Bin won Best Actor for his performance in Harbin, making them the first married couple to simultaneously win Best Actor and Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
When asked about their son’s reaction, Son Ye-jin smiled and said, “He’s still very young, so he doesn’t really understand what’s happening. Even when we show him YouTube clips, he’s not that interested.”
Son Ye-jin also took the opportunity to thank her fans, especially for their dedication in voting for her Popular Star Award. “I heard that fans had to log in and even pay to participate in the voting. Knowing they went through that effort for me was incredibly moving,” she said.
She admitted that winning Best Actress was something she never expected. “I honestly never dreamed I would win both the Popularity Award and Best Actress on the same day. That entire day is something I’ll never forget.” She added that she remains deeply grateful to her long-time fans and to international fans who discovered her through Crash Landing on You.
This marks Son Ye-jin’s return to the Blue Dragon Best Actress title for the first time in 17 years, since her win for A Moment to Remember. Reflecting on the award’s significance, she said, “When I first started acting, my goal was to win Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Awards. When it happened early in my career, it felt surreal and even a little empty. But winning it again now feels like recognition of all the years I’ve endured—it gives me strength to keep going.”
Often nicknamed “So Ye-jin” for her tireless work ethic, Son Ye-jin revealed that motherhood has fundamentally changed her life balance. “After giving birth, I finally feel a clear separation between work and personal life. When I was single, acting was everything. Now, I can switch on and off like a regular office worker.”
Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin married in 2022 and share a son. Their joint victory at this year’s Blue Dragon Film Awards added a historic and deeply personal chapter to Korean film history one that fans and the couple themselves will remember for years to come.
