Son Na-eun, Bona and Lee Jun-young – Idols who are trying to regain their reputation as “acting idols”
Son Na-eun, Bona and Lee Jun-young recently gained attention for their performances in dramas “Ghost Doctor”, “Twenty-five Twenty-one”, and “Love and Leashes”, respectively.
Apink Son Na-eun, WJSN Bona and U-KISS Lee Jun-young have started to regain their reputation as “acting idols (idols who are active as actors)”. They are proving their presence by appearing everywhere on the small screen and OTT (online video service) platforms. Many idol stars, including BLACKPINK Jisoo who played the female lead in JTBC’s drama “Snowdrop” and Kang Daniel of Disney+’s series “Rookie Cops,” have recently struggled with low ratings and the drama’s poor popularity although their performances drew attention both inside and outside the broadcasts.
Son Na-eun appeared as an emergency room intern in tvN’s drama “Ghost Doctor”. She formed a hilarious love line with Kim Bum, who played the 1st year thoracic surgery resident. The role of a veteran doctor played by Jung Ji-hoon (Rain) is receiving favorable responses as it creates lots of interesting stories that happen when he possesses Kim Bum’s body.
Son Na-eun has expanded her position as an actress by challenging different works, such as the 2018 horror film “The Wrath” and JTBC’s 2012 drama “My Kids Give Me a Headache”. With her strong desire for acting, she moved to YG Entertainment, Cha Seung-won and Choi Ji-woo’s agency, last year and is carrying out many activities to strengthen her acting career.
Bona recently became a hot topic with tvN’s “Twenty-five Twenty-one”, which was broadcast for the first time on February 12th. In this drama, Bona, who appears as the fencing genius Go Yu-rim, forms a rival relationship with the main character played by Kim Tae-ri. Showing up on the small screen with a different image, Bona drew the viewers’ curiosity and responses, such as, “I searched for her since I thought she was a rookie actress”. After appearing on KBS 2TV’s weekend drama “Homemade Love Story” last year, Bona has continued to focus on building her acting career.
Lee Jun-young, who has carried out nonstop acting activities after participating in tvN’s drama “Avengers Social Club” in 2017, recently drew keen attention again with Netflix’s original movie “Love and Leashes”. With his natural acting when playing the character of an office worker who has a unique sexual taste, Lee Jun-young gained enthusiastic reviews from the viewers. Thanks to his outstanding performances, the movie successfully ranked 6th place in Most-watched movies worldwide on Netflix (based on Flix Patrol’s chart release) on February 17th. Therefore, Lee Jun-young is expected to receive many casting calls for more dramas.
