Do you think the hype these actors get is well-deserved?
Besides K-drama fans who are in love with the following Korean actors and would watch anything they star in, there are also online critics who think these actors are overrated and don’t deserve all the hype they usually receive from the media.
1. Ahn Hyo Seop
“Business Proposal” became a hit recently thanks to its fun plot and a charming, good-looking cast. Ahn Hyo Seop has also successfully boosted his popularity by a significant amount by playing the cold, arrogant and handsome CEO Kang Tae Moo. Although he managed to capture the hearts of many viewers with this role, Ahn Hyo Seop’s performance in the viral rom-com still gets called “overrated”. According to some viewers who have watched Ahn Hyo Seop in his previous dramas, “Business Proposal” is a step backwards in his career acting-wise. Compared to what he delivered in “Dr. Romantic 2” and “Lovers of the Red Sky”, Ahn Hyo Seop’s acting in “Business Proposal” feels too safe. He is also said to look stiff and forced, especially in emotional scenes.
2. Jung Ho Yeon
Jung Ho Yeon had her debut role in Netflix’s global sensation “Squid Game” and shot to fame as an actress overnight. Although the massive popularity of “Squid Game” is undeniable, both the series itself and the cast, including Jung Ho Yeon, still get labeled “overhyped”. Jung Ho Yeon did a good job in “Squid Game” given the fact that this is her first-ever acting gig, but her performance is nowhere near mind-blowingly great compared to all the praise and hype she gets.
3. Song Kang
Song Kang’s acting has always drawn mixed reactions. Despite not being a terrible actor, Song Kang’s acting still receives negative comments for being awkward and expressionless. Song Kang is so popular and continuously gets offers to play the lead regardless of his controversial skills. This explains why viewers find him overrated. The problem with Song Kang is that he keeps accepting new roles instead of spending more time improving his vocalization, expressions, etc. Song Kang’s acting in his latest drama “Forecasting Love and Weather” did bring him more positive reviews than previous works, but he is still considered lacking when acting alongside a more experienced actress like Park Min Young. Viewers are hoping Song Kang will work harder in practicing his skills so that he won’t be known as an actor who only has the looks.
