SNSD’s Yuri Went To Audition As Friend’s Backup Dancer But Ended Up Becoming Trainee

Girls’ Generation members recently posted group photos to celebrate their 17th debut anniversary. Except for Sunny, who couldn’t join the party because she was staying in the US, the members wore beautiful clothes and took commemorative pictures. Yuri drew particular attention with her hip look with sunglasses and a headset.

Born in 1989, Yuri debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation with the title song “Into The New World” in 2007. As a group with all kinds of skills, from singing to dancing and visuals, Girls’ Generation set numerous records and became a representative K-pop group as well as a “textbook for girl groups” not only in Korea but also in Japan.

Known as a visual member of the group, Yuri was loved for her healthy beauty with her bright energy and strong body. She perfectly digested the uniform concept during “Genie” promotion and greatly imprinted her presence in the public.

In fact, Yuri went to the audition in 2001 as a backup dancer to support her friend, who wanted to audition, but she ended up becoming an idol trainee. Appearing in an entertainment program in the past, Yuri said, “My friend told me that she would apply for an audition and asked me to help her as a backup dancer”

Revealing the behind story of her casting, Yuri said, “At the audition, they turned on a song and asked me to sing and dance. After that, they asked me to come again with my parents. We came to the company and met the boss. He asked me to sign a contract with the company”.

Yuri, who failed to debut three or five years after becoming a trainee, said she was very anxious to see the friends she had practiced together debut and appear on TV. She even thought this path was not hers and that she should quit. Enduring all the difficulties of the training period, Yuri finally debuted with fellow trainees after 7 years of practice. Now, Girls’ Generation is one of the longest-running Korean girl group and they are still solidifying their position as an iconic K-pop group.

Having been active for a very long time, Yuri is still showing her versatile talents as an entertainer in various fields, such as acting, music, SNS, entertainment programs, etc. Recently, she joined Season 3 of Disney+’s original show “The Zone: Survival Mission” with Yoo Jae-suk, Kim Dong-hyun, and Dex.
