“SM’s rookie boy group” RIIZE signs label contract with RCA Records

Rookie boy group RIIZE’s global moves are a hot topic.

According to SM Entertainment on Sep 5th, boy group RIIZE recently signed a label contract with RCA Records under world-renowned record company Sony Music Entertainment and decided to release their first single “Get A Guitar” locally. As it is very unusual for a K-pop group to sign a contract with a major US record label before their official debut, this shows the global music market’s high interest in RIIZE.

RCA Records is the second-oldest label in the US and presents music across various genres. As it is considered one of the best music labels with many world-famous artists including Doja Cat, Justin Timberlake, Khalid, P!NK, Foo Fighters and SZA, this contract shows that RIIZE is considered the next-generation global K-pop leader.

In particular, through “RIIZING DAY: RIIZE Premiere”, an event commemorating the release of RIIZE’s first single album held on Sep 4th, SM’s directors Kim Hyung Kook and Lee Sang Min, who produced the group, announced the signing of the label contract with RCA Records for the first time.

In addition, the signing of this contract is meaningful in that it is a move after SM and Kakao Entertainment previously announced that they would accelerate the global activities of artists through the launch of an integrated North American corporation. SM’s CBO and integrated North American corporation’s CEO Joseph Chang shared, “RIIZE is ushering in an exciting new era of K-pop. We are thrilled to partner with the amazing team at RCA and look forward to making history together.

RCA Records’ Chairman and CEO Peter Edge said, “RIIZE are incredibly talented and versatile artists and we are excited to welcome them to the RCA Family and work together with the amazing SM team.” RCA Records’ COO John Fleckenstein added, “RIIZE are set to break new boundaries in global pop with an entirely fresh perspective.

Meanwhile, RIIZE released their first single “Get A Guitar” on Sep 4th and has been receiving enthusiastic responses, such as surpassing 1.03 million pre-orders and heralding million-seller title upon debut.
