In particular, RollingStone chose Girls’ Generation’s “Gee” for 1st place and praised, “‘Gee’ is a testament to the way love — and all of its indescribable ecstasies — can be translated through pop music”. Regarding Girls’ Generation’s debut song “Into The New World”, the media commented, “It opened the doors to the seminal girl group’s epic career, which saw them forging K-pop’s international popularity in the late 2000s and early 2010s.”

In addition, Super Junior’s “SORRY, SORRY” placed No.12 and was introduced as the group’s “quintessential earworm” while Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor”, which “sounds like the taste of summertime fun, adventure, and romance” followed in No.13. SHINee ranked No.16 with “Lucifer”, which was described as a song with “boundary-pushing production and performance concepts”. f(x)’s ‘most evolved form EDM-pop’ “4 Walls” and BoA’s ‘most emblematic crossover hit’ “No.1” achieved No.17 and No.18, respectively.

Said to be a “wonderfully seductive title track” by RollingStone, TVXQ’s “Mirotic” ranked No.25. “Growl” – the mega-hit of “one of the most thrilling boy bands of the time” EXO – appeared at No.34, while NCT 127’s “Cherry Bomb” was selected in the 59th place with the compliment that it’s a masterwork that makes K-pop at its most ambitious and explorative.

Ranking No.86, Taemin’s “MOVE” was highlighted by its genderless choreography, which “became a sensation among idols and dancers”. The addictive pop song “Next Level” by aespa, the group that has AI avatars, entered the list at No.89, proving the global influence of SM and their artists.

Moreover, the appearance of songs by legendary groups that created SM’s history, such as H.O.T’s “Candy” (No.2) and S.E.S’s “I’m Your Girl” (No.27), on the list once again certified SM’s unique music history.
