Singapore influencer Genie Yamaguchi has been sentenced to wear an electronic tag and remain under curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily after being convicted of shoplifting.
On September 23, the 30-year-old was handed a three-month Day Reporting Order (DRO), a penalty that serves as an alternative to fines or jail time. Under the DRO, offenders must regularly report to a designated center, according to The Straits Times.
Court records revealed that in the early hours of August 25, 2024, Yamaguchi and her friend Lee Suet Keay Cheryl stole 27 items worth SGD 628.90 from Don Don Donki at Orchard Central. The stolen goods included cosmetics, handbags, and food.

A supermarket staff member noticed the incident and alerted management before police were called. Security cameras also captured the theft. Yamaguchi was later arrested at her home on September 3, 2024.
During the proceedings, her lawyer Joyce Khoo explained that Yamaguchi had fully compensated Don Don Donki for the stolen items. The prosecution also acknowledged her clean criminal record and supported the imposition of the DRO.
In court, Yamaguchi expressed deep remorse and promised not to reoffend.
Once a popular social media figure admired for her glamorous image and luxurious lifestyle, Yamaguchi has since deleted her Instagram account following the scandal.
