On February 24, Sohu reported that a staff member from Lin Gengxin’s representative office shared a Lunar New Year gift box from Zhao Liying. This gift was personally delivered by Zhao Liying’s cousin, who also serves as her assistant, highlighting the close connection between the assistants of the two stars.
Lin Gengxin, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Shanghai, unexpectedly traveled to Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China to celebrate the Lantern Festival. He was seen spending time with Zhao Liying’s cousin. Notably, this period coincided with the actor’s birthday. Many found it suspicious that Lin Gengxin made such a long journey to the location where Zhao Liying was filming “The City Maker”, possibly to celebrate his birthday with her.

In late December 2024, Zhao Liying brought her son and close friends to a fireworks event in Quanzhou, China. Interestingly, Lin Gengxin was also present and was seen conversing with her cousin, further fueling rumors of a secret romance between the two.
Moreover, fans noticed that Lin Gengxin wore a plush rabbit pin on his jacket—the rabbit symbolizes Zhao Liying’s birth year (1987) and is also the logo of her representative office. This led fans of “The Legend of Shen Li” to believe that Lin Gengxin and Zhao Liying share a special bond beyond mere colleagues.

According to Sina, ever since the success of the historical drama “Princess Agents” (2017), Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin have amassed a large fanbase that has long hoped for their on-screen chemistry to turn into real-life romance. Their reunion in “The Legend of Shen Li” (2024) and their natural, comfortable interactions made fans even more excited and expectant.
The two have also been spotted multiple times wearing clothing featuring a dog and a rabbit—symbols closely associated with them. Lin Gengxin is nicknamed “Lin Dog” (Lin Gou), while Zhao Liying was born in the Year of the Rabbit.

Lin Gengxin, born in 1988, rose to fame with his role as the 14th Prince in “Scarlet Heart”, co-starring Liu Shishi and Nicky Wu. He has been favored and mentored by renowned director Tsui Hark. His performance in the film “Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings” earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 10th Macau International Movie Festival. Lin Gengxin has also starred in films such as “My Old Classmate”, “The Taking of Tiger Mountain” and “Sword Master”.
In 2017, his career skyrocketed with his role as Yuwen Yue in “Princess Agents”, alongside Zhao Liying. Their on-screen chemistry was rekindled in “The Legend of Shen Li” (2024).

Zhao Liying previously had an unsuccessful marriage with actor Feng Shaofeng. The two announced their marriage in 2018 after developing a relationship while filming “The Story of Minglan”. However, after tying the knot, they rarely appeared together in public, sparking rumors of an unhappy marriage. In May 2021, they officially announced their divorce, shocking the entertainment industry.
