“Shooting Stars” to become a total failure: Lee Sung Kyung and Kim Young Dae boasted controversial acting?

The ongoing K-drama “Shooting Stars” is not receiving the best of feedback.

With a star-studded cast and outstanding cameo lineup, yet the K-drama “Shooting Stars” is going pretty poorly with low viewership ratings and mixed reception. Many netizens are even calling the series a “flop”, in contrast to initial expectations.

Shooting Stars

“Shooting Stars” revolves around staff in an entertainment agency, who help promote, strategize, and bring their talents to stardom. The series was highly-anticipated when it was first announced, only to become one of the “floppest” K-dramas from the start of 2022.

Shooting Stars

Despite airing in the 6-7pm time slot on Fridays and Saturdays (one of the best time slots for cable TV), the viewership ratings of “Shooting Stars” have never crossed the 2%. In fact, they even decrease over time, dropping from 1.6-1.7% to a meager 1.2-1.3% in later episodes. Even worse, this K-drama also attracted no topics on the net, and people were barely talking about it.

Interesting premise yet not at all unique

While “Shooting Stars” promoted itself heavily, its execution fell short, and did not manage to shed light on aspects of the entertainment industry that people haven’t known. Instead, it just repeats the same information that can be easily found on the net, thus tiring out the audience.

Many people also said that “Shooting Stars” feels like a series from over a decade ago. According to them, the series recycles the same plotlines and characters, which is utterly boring.

In addition, the female lead Oh Han Byul does not act at all like how she was introduced, disappointing those looking for a capable female lead. As a result, the failure of “Shooting Stars” is said to be expected.

Controversial acting by both the main leads

In addition to the outdated plot, the two leads’ acting is not that impressive either. The most problematic acting performance undeniably comes from Kim Young Dae. The Korean small screen has introduced viewers to various good portrayals of a top celebrity such as Rain in “Full House”, Jun Ji Hyun in “My Love From The Star”, Kim Woo Bin in “Uncontrollably Fond”. Unfortunately, Kim Young Dae in “Shooting Stars” fails to live up to his seniors.

Shooting Stars

Aside from his handsome visuals, Kim Young Dae’s shortcomings are evident through stiff, cringey facial expressions and awkward delivery. He doesn’t show improvement compared to his acting in “Penthouse”.

Shooting Stars

Kim Young Dae has a stunning physique and an attractive face, but he lacks the charm to lead a drama. When he took on supporting characters, he could be covered up by the leads with better acting and charisma. But when he plays the lead, his lackluster performance seems more obvious.

Shooting Stars

As for Lee Sung Kyung, although her acting doesn’t face as many negative reactions as Kim Young Dae, it is not praiseworthy either. Lee Sung Kyung’s acting in “Shooting Stars” is said to be monotonous compared to her previous roles, thus failing to leave an impression. Transforming into a PR team leader in this drama comeback, but there are many scenes where Lee Sung Kyung’s acting reminds viewers of her character in “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”.
