On the August 1st episode of ENA’s variety talk show “Salon de Idol”, Key sat down with Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon and BTOB’s Changsub and recalled the shocking moment.

“I once went to a room bar and overheard people in the next room talking badly about me,” Key began. According to him, he and a friend were quietly drinking in a room at a bar in Itaewon, Seoul, when a group of 45 women in their 20s – 30s entered the neighboring room.

Key explained that the women seemed to be celebrating a birthday and started with cheerful conversations. “Then they started talking about TV shows, and eventually ‘I Live Alone’ came up,” he said, referring to the popular MBC variety show in which he is a regular cast member.

“One of them said they liked me, but then another responded very strongly, saying things like, ‘I think his tone is just so rude,’” Key recalled. “They were saying all this stuff just one wall away. It really hit me that people say these kinds of things so casually when they think you’re not around.”

Key admitted he and his friend were stunned into silence, choosing not to react. “It was really tough hearing it so close,” he confessed. When Hyoyeon teased, “You should’ve cracked the door open just a little,” Key responded, “I really debated whether I should. They went back and forth arguing about me for like 40 minutes.”

The moment shed light on the often unseen emotional toll public figures face when confronted with unfiltered opinions about them. Despite his confident and charismatic public image, Key’s story revealed a more vulnerable side—one that many fans and fellow celebrities could deeply empathize with.
