Super Junior member Shindong finally addressed the long-circulating rumors about his marriage and alleged divorce, setting the record straight with humor and honesty.
In the October 8 episode of Dongdong Pocha, titled “Which Super Junior member would you go to heaven with?”, Shindong appeared alongside actor Lee Sian, sharing drinks and candid stories.
When Lee Sian asked, “Didn’t you get married?” Shindong surprised everyone by replying, “I got divorced. I lost custody and now I’m sending money every month.”
However, he quickly laughed and clarified, “That was a joke. Back then, there was someone I wanted to marry, and I talked about it on a broadcast. Things didn’t work out, but the breakup became public. Many people thought it was a shotgun wedding, so they started asking me if I already had a child.”
Shindong shared that the misunderstanding spread rapidly, explaining, “Even when I was with my stylist or female staff, people would assume she was my wife. Some even asked me, ‘How’s your kid doing?’ I’d just reply, ‘He’s already in elementary school,’ as a joke.”

The Super Junior member went on to reveal that rumors spiraled out of control when he was later linked to another romantic interest. “Then a dating article came out, and people said, ‘Wait, didn’t he get married? Did he get divorced?’ It got so messy that I just stopped explaining.”
When Lee Sian pressed him for a “status update,” Shindong jokingly replied, “I’m raising my dog, Tteokbap, and that’s about it. I’m single.”
This isn’t the first time Shindong has referenced his infamous “almost marriage.” Back in 2010, during SBS’s Strong Heart, he proposed to his then-girlfriend on-air, saying, “I don’t have much, but I want to marry you.” His agency, SM Entertainment, later clarified that the couple had planned a meeting between families but were not officially engaged. The relationship eventually ended, but the incident remained one of the most talked-about moments in his career.
Recently, Shindong revisited that chapter on Running Man, turning the once-controversial event into a lighthearted anecdote that showcased his trademark humor and self-awareness.
With his latest revelation on Dongdong Pocha, Shindong once again proved that he knows how to handle rumors with a mix of honesty, wit, and good-natured laughter.
