Actress Shin Ye Eun has drawn attention after joking that nearly every actor she works with ends up enlisting in the military shortly after filming together.
Previously, Ong Seong Wu (More Than Friends), Kim Myung Soo (L) (Welcome), Park Jin Young (Yumi’s Cells 2), Kang Tae Oh (A Moment of Romance), Seo Ji Hoon (Revenge of Others), and Rowoon (The Murky Stream) all enlisted after completing projects with Shin Ye Eun. Most recently, Lee Jae Wook, who starred with her in ENA’s Doctor on the Edge, confirmed his military enlistment before the drama even premiered, leaving Shin Ye Eun to promote the series on her own.
During an interview held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the morning of July 7 following the finale of Doctor on the Edge, Shin Ye Eun commented, “Every actor I work with ends up going to the military. It really makes me wonder why. Sometimes I think maybe I’m the partner who sends people off to enlist.”
She added that even Lee Jun Young, who recently appeared alongside her on JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, is also preparing for military service. Laughing, Shin Ye Eun said, “Seriously, they’ve all gone, except Ryeoun and Lomon.”
Doctor on the Edge is a medical human romance drama about Do Ji Ui (played by Lee Jae Wook), a public health doctor assigned to the isolated and notorious island of Pyeondongdo, and Yook Ha Ri (played by Shin Ye Eun), a nurse carrying many secrets. The drama concluded its run on July 7.
Shin Ye Eun portrayed Yook Ha Ri, a mysterious nurse who arrives at the island’s public health center with a hidden past, and shared romantic chemistry with Lee Jae Wook throughout the series.
Speaking about working with Lee Jae Wook, Shin Ye Eun said, “It was our first time acting together, but I had always hoped we’d have the opportunity someday. He has a very clear acting style and a lot of experience. I really felt that he has tremendous talent as an actor.” The two stars are the same age.
Meanwhile, Shin Ye Eun is currently reviewing an offer to star in the upcoming drama Night Traveler. Park Bo Gum has been mentioned as the potential male lead. Regarding the project, Shin Ye Eun cautiously responded, “Nothing has been confirmed yet.”
