Shin Hyun Ji, “Annual salary is more than 1 billion… Prada & Louis Vuitton pay less than Chanel”
Model Shin Hyun Ji talked about her experience at Chanel show and revealed her annual salary on “Radio Star”.
On the June 28th broadcast of MBC’s “Radio Star”, the scene where Shin Hyun Ji revealed her salary became a hot topic.
Regarding her experience of being the first Asian to join the closing of Chanel Show, Shin Hyun Ji said, “Unlike other brands, Chanel does not tell us the order of the clothes. I only found out about that during the rehearsal. During the outfit pitching, they let me in a white long coat. I don’t often wear long coats since I’m quite short.”
Shin Hyun Ji proudly shared, “The staff invited me to the show and even gave me a bag as a gift. They told me to do the closing with models Gigi Hadid and Mona. If you take a closer look at my nose, you would see that I was very excited.”
Park Sae Mi asked, “Did you receive more gifts after the runway?”. In response, Shin Hyun Ji said, “I felt so grateful for the opportunity. It made me think ‘I should also buy a gift for myself’ so I decided to buy a Chanel bag. The product model I wanted was in another store, so they told me to come back the next day”, explaining the situation.
Shin Hyun Ji continued, “The store staff contacted the designer at the headquarters. They asked, ‘Hyun Ji is coming to the store tomorrow?’. The designer said, ‘What does Hyun Ji want? I’ll give her a gift’. I received a Chatech, known as Chanel’s product that is increasing in price. It’s worth around 13 million won. Since it’s such a high-priced item, they won’t give it as a gift unless it’s for a special model”.
Kim Guk Jin wondered, “I heard there is an achievement in your career that you want to boast about?”, Shin Hyun Ji proudly replied, “Originally, I was ranked within the top 50 among countless models worldwide, and then I was registered as an industry icon following models Soo Joo Ra and Choi So Ra. The title ‘icon’ is just another level. There are many famous models that everyone knows.”
Kim Guk Jin commented, “I heard you earn a lot of money”. In response, Shin Hyun Ji confessed, “A program called ‘Game of Blood’ recently revealed my salary. They said I earned 500 million won a year, but in reality, I actually received less than usual because I couldn’t travel much due to the pandemic.”
When asked, “Does it double during the days you do well?”, Shin Hyun Ji replied, “More than that. The show determines how much you earn. In my case, for brands like Chanel, the more I model for them the more the pay increases. I receive quite a good amount. On the other hand, brands like Prada or Louis Vuitton pay less. Just being associated with their brands is an honor. In this case, there’s a 0 missing in the pay. Show pay is actually unbelievable. Spa brands are money-making opportunities for models. Top models often take photoshoots for them. It adds one more 0 to the pay compared to photoshoots or runway shows”.
