Shin Dong-yeop Reacts To Red Velvet Yeri’s Mention Of SM’s Cell Phone Curfew, “Because Of Seniors’ Incidents”

Shin Dong-yeop’s remark upon hearing Red Velvet’s Yeri talk about SM not allowing their idols to use cell phones became a hot topic

On July 1st, Shin Dong-yeop’s YouTube channel “Zzanbro” uploaded a video featuring the guest appearance of Red Velvet members Seulgi, Joy and Yeri. While sharing various talks with Shin Dong-yeop, Yeri said the company’s regulations became stricter after she made her debut.

Yeri said, “While we were newbies, we had curfew time with no phone to use. What was most peculiar was that I had a phone while I was a trainee, but when I made a debut, it was gone. I wonder why I must get rid of my phone”.

In response, Shin Dong-yeop said, “But that’s because of your seniors. They allowed them to use the phone, and from then, there were infinite incidents that pushed them for a meeting. You should bear a grudge against your seniors”

Hearing that, Joy commented, “We don’t do that anymore these days. We’re free. We were like the last generation for that”.

The video of this scene quickly spread in online communities and aroused various reactions from netizens. Some sympathize with Shin Dong-yeop’s words, while others think it does not match the current trend.

People who agreed with Shin Dong-yeop’s opinion said, “Just look at dating rumors that broke out every time aespa had individual activities”, “That could happen since the entertainment industry is full of pretty and handsome kids”, etc. Other netizens commented, “They’ll manage it on their own”, “Idols these days need to have cell phones to communicate with fans on Bubble”, etc.

Meanwhile, Red Velvet released their new album “COSMIC” on June 24th to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary. The album contains 6 songs, including the title track “COSMIC”. Set in the background of a summer festival, the girl group’s comeback music video for “COSMIC” drew attention as it was created as a homage to the movie “Midsommar”
