According to Sohu on May 30, Chinese actress Shi Rui sparked intense discussion across social media when she publicly accused her former boyfriend, actor Xiao Xu, of carrying on a long-term affair behind her back. The couple had reportedly been deeply in love for 13 years, beginning their relationship in 2012 before eventually breaking up in 2025.
However, Shi Rui now claims that Xiao Xu had secretly been involved with another woman since 2018. The alleged affair continued for years while he remained in a committed relationship with her. The controversy exploded after Xiao Xu announced his marriage on social media on May 29. The bride later revealed that she and Xiao Xu had been dating for eight years, from 2018 to 2026.
In other words, Xiao Xu is being accused of maintaining a parallel relationship for seven years, allegedly cheating on Shi Rui from 2018 until their breakup in 2025.
What makes the situation even more shocking is that Shi Rui initially believed their relationship had simply ended because their feelings had faded over time, with no third party involved. It was only after Xiao Xu’s marriage announcement and his wife’s comments about their eight-year relationship that she reportedly realized she had unknowingly been cheated on throughout much of her romance with the actor.
Shi Rui later shared an emotional statement on social media, criticizing her former boyfriend while also seemingly directing comments toward the other woman.
“Starting a new relationship after a breakup, or remarrying after a divorce, is completely normal. But throughout all these years, I never found a single clue or trace. Was it because you hid it so well, or because I was simply too foolish? I don’t dare examine the overlapping timelines. I don’t dare look at those photos. I can’t even bring myself to read the messages friends have sent me. I have to admit that the other woman must have had incredible patience and endurance. Her eight years couldn’t have been easy either. I never understood your coldness and emotional distance before our breakup, but now I finally have my answer. It feels like I understand a little more now, yet I still don’t want to believe it. Because if it’s true, then I look incredibly pathetic and humiliated.”
Chinese media outlets have also uncovered photos that further fueled public criticism of Xiao Xu. In one image from New Year’s celebrations in 2021, he was seen publicly embracing Shi Rui and affectionately referring to her as his “beloved wife” despite allegedly already being in a relationship with the woman who is now his spouse.
The actor has also been mocked online as a “master of time management” after reports suggested he balanced his relationship with Shi Rui while simultaneously spending time with the other woman. Some reports even claim he openly brought the alleged mistress to gatherings with friends. As a result, several of Xiao Xu’s acquaintances have also come under scrutiny, with netizens accusing them of helping conceal the affair from Shi Rui.
Born in 1990 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, Shi Rui has appeared in several popular Chinese dramas, including Rattan and Born to Be the One. Her performances in these productions helped establish her presence in the entertainment industry.
Xiao Xu, who was born in 1987 in Qiqihar, China, gained recognition through projects such as Sword Dynasty and Family’s N Power of Exponent, earning attention from audiences through his supporting roles in various television dramas.
