SEVENTEEN member Seungkwan mourned his close friend Moonbin, who recently passed away.
On April 24th, messages from Moonbin’s friends mourning him in a memorial space gained attention online, including one from Moonbin’s younger sister, Moon Sua, and his ASTRO members, Jinjin and MJ, as well as WekiMeki’s Yoojung and SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan.
Among them, Seungkwan’s letter, who was a close friend of Moonbin, stood out in particular.
Seungkwan’s touching message to Moonbin reads, “Moonbin, wait a little. I’ll make the whole universe feel like it’s yours. I love you so much. Hug me tight when we meet again.”
In addition, WekiMeki’s Yoojung also expressed her sincere condolences, saying, “Rest peacefully now. You took such good care of the people around you. Rest comfortably there. I’ll visit you often. You were so reliable and kind.“
Moonbin’s agency, Fantagio, announced through its official fan cafe that the memorial space for Moonbin, originally scheduled to be open until April 22nd, will be extended until April 30th.
Seungkwan and Moonbin revealed their close friendship through their Instagram accounts, posting pictures they took together. In an interview with GQ Korea in February, Moonbin named Seungkwan and VIVIZ’s SinB as idols he was close with.
At the time, Moonbin said, “I have a lot of memories with Seungkwan. I don’t like going out much, but thanks to him, I went to a lot of places. I’ve known SinB since I was 8 years old, and it was amazing when she debuted as a GFRIEND member.”
Moonbin also joked, “I miss Seungkwan on rainy days. I don’t really miss SinB though.“
Earlier, Seungkwan sat out of SEVENTEEN’s pre-recording for Mnet’s “M Countdown,” which was scheduled for April 20th, because he was feeling unwell. At the time, SEVENTEEN’s agency, Pledis Entertainment, stated, “Due to his condition, it was difficult for him to participate. We apologize to fans and ask for your understanding.“
Moonbin was found dead on April 19th at his home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Fantagio said, “Moonbin suddenly left us and became a star in the sky.”
On April 22nd, Moonbin’s funeral was held privately in accordance with the wishes of the family. Fantagio asked for understanding, stating, “We ask for your generous understanding so that ASTRO members and Moonbin’s family can send him off beautifully on his final journey.”
Born in 1998, Moonbin debuted as a member of ASTRO in 2016. He formed the unit Moonbin & Sanha and released their mini-album “INCENSE” in January of this year, which was well-received.
