SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi Shot Back at University after Being Blamed for Power Abuse

On May 28 and 29, Hanyang University held the spring festival “ESPERO: BEAT”, with Choi Yena, Nell, SEVENTEEN’s BSS, and Cravity scheduled to perform on Day 2.

Additionally, according to the student council of Hanyang University, the entrance barricade for the festival would open at 2 AM of May 29, and queuing numbers would be distributed for those who showed up early.

However, at around 7:30 AM (KST) of the same day, many posts started to circulate on social media, with students and festival-goers claiming that they were not allowed to go to the bathroom while queuing and instead had to go to the back of the line. Additionally, the organizers banned the people queuing from passing water around to drink.

Against the complaints of students and festival-goers, Hanyang University claimed that their actions were in accordance with SEVENTEEN’s request, basically accusing the boy group of power abuse.

However, at noon on the same day, a member of SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi published an update on the fan community Weverse, saying, “It is necessary to go to the bathroom” and “It’s important to drink a lot of water”, effectively shutting down the accusation of Hanyang University.

“We are currently in the middle of a group schedule and will quickly complete it to meet you guys (at Hanyang University). Please wait for us a little!! Always appreciate and love you”, Hoshi also added.

As a result, a lot of fans and the public alike are angered by Hanyang University’s shameless behavior of trying to blame idols for their poor organization. Below are some comments from netizens:

  • They even said that SEVENTEEN told them to ban water and leaving to go to the bathroom? That’s such vicious behavior. Now that the idols themselves have spoken up, I wonder what the university is planning to say this time
  • Wow are they idiots? Do they want to be sued? Why would they blame the singers lieke that?
  • There were even posts about the organizers searching through belongings and dumping the belongings in unsupervised areas. Hanyang is truly trash
  • Act quickly and apologize, Hanyang University
  • The student council got way too into their heads.. What they did was power abuse and then they tried to put the blame on singers. Shitty people.
