On August 9th (local time), a US media outlet reported that TSV Management would hold an event called ‘Burning Sun’ in Indonesia. In particular, controversy arose as Seungri was announced as the event’s special guest.
In this regard, Daily Sports conducted an interview with Seungri on August 11th. When asked about the issue, the former BIGBANG member said, “It’s not true at all”, adding “All the rumors about what I’m doing in Hong Kong and Cambodia are also nonsense”.
In an interview, Seungri also mentioned his past remark about inviting G-Dragon to a Cambodian party. According to Seungri’s answer, he admitted his mistake, claiming that he unintentionally mentioned G-Dragon’s name because he was too immersed in the atmosphere at the party, and promised to not behave like that again in the future.
Seungri also refuted the rumors of him preparing a club in Hong Kong. He added that he would be quiet and act more responsibly so that people would not feel annoyed by news about him.
Seungri caused controversies in 2019 when he was found to have participated in the Gangnam Burning Sun Club Incident and charged with sexual crimes and embezzlement.
In May 2022, the Supreme Court’s Division 1 confirmed the lower court’s sentence of one year and six months in prison for Seungri on charges of habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act, prostitution, etc.
On February 9th, 2023, Seungri was released after serving in Yeoju Prison in Gyeonggi-do. Seungri already withdrew from BIGBANG and retired from the entertainment industry after his scandal broke out.
However, Seungri became controversial even after being released from prison. In January this year, a video showing Seungri visiting Phnom Penh, Cambodia and hosting an event at a restaurant spread rapidly in online communities. In the video, Seungri wears a suit and shouts “I’ll bring G-Dragon here one day” while dancing to G-Dragon and Taeyang’s song “Good Boy”.
