SBS’s “Curious Stories Y” is set to expose the shocking reality of Seo Geun-sik (alias), a convicted child murderer whose release from prison led to repeated crimes.
The August 29 broadcast will focus on Seo’s history of violence and the disturbing truth behind his actions. Seo, who once attended the same taekwondo studio as his victim, calmly testified after the crime, leaving a chilling impression on investigators. Although the case was not widely publicized at the request of the victim’s family, one officer recalled, “I can never forget how composed he was after committing such a horrific act.”
The father of the late Jaemin expressed deep anger: “I was sure he would do it again. But because he was a minor, the maximum sentence was just 15 years.” In fact, prior to murdering Jaemin, Seo already had three sexual assault charges but received lenient punishments such as suspended indictments due to his age. That leniency eventually led to the fourth crime—the murder of a child.
Before his release, Seo sent the bereaved family a letter framed as an apology. However, a criminal psychology expert analyzed it as anything but remorse: “It wasn’t an apology letter but a threat letter. It’s eerily similar to Lee Choon-jae, the Hwaseong serial killer.” The letter contained tones of mockery and intimidation, raising doubts about his potential for rehabilitation.

On July 6, those fears became reality. Seo attacked another victim and chillingly declared, “See this electronic anklet? I got it for killing someone. And I’ll kill the police too.” At 37 years old, he continued targeting younger males, and the production team discovered that several other victims had also suffered similar crimes at his hands.
SBS’s “Curious Stories Y”, airing August 29 at 8:50 PM, will delve deeply into Seo Geun-sik’s repeated atrocities and the shocking aftermath of his release.
