Sandara Park Recalls Difficulties When Moving Back And Forth Between The Philippines And Korea

Brian and Sandara Park talked about their impression when coming to Korea for the first time

Brian and Sandara Park guested on the December 18th broadcast of SBS PowerFM’s “Cultwo Show”.

During the radio, Brian said, “It’s been a while since I debuted. These days, people in their 20s only know me as the cleaning uncle. I’m going to film ‘Cleaning Freak’ after today’s radio program”.

Looking back on the past, he said, “As soon as I graduated from high school, I came to Korea and got culture shock. There were cultural differences and I felt really lonely. I had my manager and Hwanhee but we were not close at first. It was very awkward when I was asked to live together with some friends I didn’t even know who they were as soon as I arrived in Korea.”

Sandara Park also shared, “I was in the Philippines before moving back to Korea for work. It wasn’t easy at all. I couldn’t speak Filipino and only used English to communicate. That’s why many people attacked me for it. Despite that, I tried my best to reach the level of a Filipino native. Now I can speak Filipino very well and even forgot some English”.

She added, “Returning to Korea, everything was unfamiliar. Since I spent my school days and adolescence in the Philippines, I was misunderstood by others many times due to the differences in the customs and greetings. I remember that I was very upset back then”.

In addition, Sandara Park also told a story about the tipping culture. She said, “I went to the Philippines again after almost 10 years and realized that the tips had increased a lot. Korean people don’t know that when they travel there, right?”, adding “I went on a tour with 2NE1 and got a massage. But the person who did the massage for Minzy kept following us and said something. We didn’t know that we gave them a monthly salary without knowing it so they wanted to thank us.”
