Ryu Jun-yeol and Kim Tae-ri Reveal How Their Real-Life Friendship Help with Their Chemistry in ‘Alienoid’
On January 3rd, a press screening for the movie ‘Alienoid’ Part 2 (Director: Choi Dong-hoon) took place at CGV I-Park Mall in Seoul. Director Choi Dong-hoon, along with actors Ryu Jun-yeol, Kim Tae-ri, Kim Woo-bin, Honey Lee, Yeom Jung-ah, Jo Woo-jin, and Kim Eui-sung, attended the event.
‘Alienoid’ Part 2 depicts the story of humans and wizards returning to the past to save everyone amid a fierce divine inspection battle, revealing hidden secrets.
The characters Mureuk (played by Ryu Jun-yeol) and Yian (Kim Tae-ri) have maintained a tangled relationship, plotting against each other for a fake marriage since Part 1.
In Part 2, the two characters continue to meet and deepen their emotions, enhancing the immersion until the end.
Kim Tae-ri spoke about her chemistry with Ryu Jun-yeol, “When taking on a project, it helps to know how the relationships between actors start and how close the characters are. The fact that Mureuk and Yian had a connection from their childhood helped. So, the friendship I built from previous works with Ryu Jun-yeol was helpful. In the film, the two characters feel a strange attraction from their first meeting, and our actual relationship was helpful in portraying that.”
Ryu Jun-yeol expressed his agreement, “The more we work together, the more it becomes evident on screen how well Kim Tae-ri and I understand and communicate with each other. In that sense, there are various types of friends, and I consider Kim Tae-ri a very deep friend.”
He proudly showcased their strong relationship, “What we commonly refer to as a married couple-like friends can be said here. Yoo In-tae once said having good colleagues is an asset in an actor’s life, and sharing personal stories with Kim Tae-ri and Kim Woo-bin while spending time together greatly helped in our work.“
Upon hearing this, director Choi Dong-hoon added, “When the two of them were about to shoot the wedding scene for the first time, they came to me and asked, ‘Is this movie a melodrama?’ I firmly said no, but they seemed to love it so much.”
Additionally, Ryu Jun-yeol shared his thoughts on portraying the robot character, previously played by Kim Woo-bin in Part 1.
Ryu Jun-yeol said, “I wore the same clothes that Kim Woo-bin wore. It was not embarrassing at all; it was enjoyable. I didn’t have to do makeup, and I didn’t have to worry about costumes; it was fun to shoot.”
He raised curiosity about his new appearance, “In Part 1, I had the joy of shooting action scenes and checking them on the monitor myself. In Part 2, seeing the CG applied to the acting was fulfilling.“
He added, “There was a different sense of satisfaction in Part 2. Rather than regret, there is joy in doing a new project. What I learned while working on ‘Alienoid’ will likely be a significant help in my future acting career.“
Kim Tae-ri concluded, “I feel like I fell in love and worked on the movie. Happy New Year, and please love ‘Alienoid’ Part 2 a lot.”
