ryu hyeyoung blackout curtains

On the June 19 broadcast of MBC’s I Live Alone, viewers got a glimpse into Ryu Hye-young’s life as she showcased her 11th year of living independently.

During the episode, it was revealed that Ryu Hye-young keeps blackout curtains drawn not only in her bedroom but also throughout her living room. While she explained that she tends to wake up easily whenever sunlight enters the room, many were surprised to see that even the spaces where she spends most of her day remained shielded from natural light.

When asked why she prefers to block out the sun, the actress shared that the habit stems from fears that developed after suddenly becoming famous through tvN’s hit drama Reply 1988.

Ryu Hye-young recalled, “When I received a lot of attention all at once during Reply 1988, I realized that even a single word I said could have influence.”

She continued, “Since then, I’ve become much more cautious about meeting people and even about what I say.”

The actress then candidly admitted, “I’m still a very fearful person. Because of that anxiety, I tend to keep my curtains closed most of the time,” drawing sympathy from viewers.

Ryu Hye-young rose to prominence in 2015 through Reply 1988, where she played Sung Bo-ra, the blunt and charismatic older sister of Lee Hye-ri’s character. Her performance left a strong impression on audiences and helped establish her as a recognizable face in Korean entertainment.

Since then, she has continued to build a diverse career through dramas such as Law School and Law and the City, while also appearing in films, variety programs, and YouTube content, showcasing different sides of her personality and talent.
