Ruby Lin recently appeared on the program See You Again, filmed on December 23, where she candidly shared the reason she and Wallace Huo ended up together.
When asked by the host whether the couple had gone through a period of getting to know each other and adjusting their relationship, Ruby Lin responded frankly that their friendship had always been very strong. They had known each other for more than 10 years and “initially had no intention of becoming a couple.” She even admitted that she once suspected Wallace Huo did not see her as a woman at all, as he always treated her like one of the guys.
“So who fell in love first?” the host asked. Smiling and waving her hand, Ruby Lin said she truly didn’t know. She recalled: “I only remember that we were both filming in Beijing in 2016, and we started seeing each other much more often. Through constant conversations, feelings gradually grew, and suddenly our eyes met in a different way.”
From friendship to romance, their relationship has always been steady. This made Ruby Lin realize how important it is to truly get to know someone slowly in a relationship. She revealed that the two have “never argued in front of their child during the nine years they have been together.”
According to the actress, she and her husband manage their finances independently and do not even know how much the other owns. They share a joint account only for their daughter’s school tuition and family insurance. All other expenses are paid separately, even small things like late-night snacks or street food.
Despite being financially independent, romance is never lacking. Wallace Huo once gifted Ruby Lin a watch worth as much as a car, and she responded with a handmade guitar. Ruby Lin believes this arrangement helps avoid conflicts, as financial independence gives her confidence and means she does not need to rely on her husband.

For a decade, they remained caring friends. Ruby Lin took Wallace Huo out for hotpot when he first arrived in mainland China, taught him Mandarin, and brought him porridge when he was injured. However, they never crossed the line of friendship. Their relationship only blossomed when they spent more time together, just as Ruby Lin described.
While Ruby Lin said she once had no romantic intentions toward Wallace Huo, the actor revealed in an interview years ago that he had feelings for her but kept them to himself, fearing that a failed confession would damage their friendship. He even joked that if Ruby Lin didn’t date him, he would probably stay single: “I have very few friends. If Ruby Lin didn’t date me, no one else would.”
From publicly confirming their relationship to getting married in Bali in 2016, only two months passed. At the wedding, Wallace Huo confessed: “Being your husband is the greatest blessing of my life,” while Ruby Lin tearfully replied: “I will always wait for you to come home.”
