On December 31st, at the “2023 KBS Drama Awards” held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, announcer Jang Sung-kyu and actors Rowoon and Seol In-ah took on the hosting duties. Since all three hosts were new to the KBS Drama Awards, they appeared nervous.

Rowoon’s hosting skills were also criticized during the “KBS Music Bank Global Festival” held on December 15th, where he co-hosted with actress Go Min-si, singer Lee Young-ji and IVE Jang Wonyoung. Viewers pointed out that Rowoon seemed awkward and lacked engagement, fixating on the teleprompter.
Viewers showed understanding for Jang Sung-kyu and Seol In-ah, expressing hope to see them host again next year. However, Rowoon’s performance received mixed reviews, with some fans expressing frustration at the disruption to their viewing experience.
Despite the possibility that Rowoon’s nervousness may have stemmed from his first time hosting on a large stage, it is challenging for viewers to sympathize with this explanation. Criticism for Rowoon’s hosting style is not new, as he faced similar comments during the “KBS Music Bank Global Festival”. As an idol-turned-actor with limited experience, he may have found the unfamiliar environment burdensome.
While perfection is not expected from the start, taking responsibility for the assigned role and making efforts to improve are considered essential professional qualities.
