Singer Retired Right After Debut: “Out of tune, lack of skills + Hurt because of silver spoon rumors”

Singer Ori, who disappeared after her first debut stage, revealed her current status for the first time in 15 years

On Feb 14th, a video featuring former singer Ori was uploaded on the YouTube channel “Current Status Olympics”.

Singer Ori made her debut stage with the title track “It’s Snowing” on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” in January 2009. At the time, MC-comedian Yoo Se-yoon introduced Ori as a rookie singer with the catchphrase “This person will definitely rise“. However, due to out of tune and unstable vocals, her debut stage video remains a topic of negative discussion even to this day.

Regarding Yoo Se-yoon’s catchphrase, Ori said, “I received a DM from him, saying ‘I felt very sorry at that time’. If I have a chance later, I want to say sorry.”

Since she debuted through the same program as IU, Ori praised, “I used the same waiting room as IU. I watched her performance and I couldn’t shut my mouth. She sang very well.”

Ori also confessed to being hurt by the unfounded rumors such as “She’s from a wealthy family” and “Her father is a PD“.

In particular, the former singer said, “My father passed away when I was 5 years old. Our family was in a difficult situation at that time. Actually, those rumors were very upsetting to me. I’m not from a wealthy family and my father passed away, but these people were asking where my father was. I had a hard time due to my dad’s absence when I was an adolescent. Those rumors were too upsetting.”

She mentioned the music program’s PD at the time, “The PD called me to meet him separately (after the stage) and the atmosphere was very bad. He must have wanted to scold me, but later told me to leave because I looked so bright.”

Then, Ori said she suffered from depression after the broadcast as many people recognized her. She continued, “My self-esteem was completely shattered. It’s natural that they criticized my skills. I’m sorry because it’s true that I lacked skills.

After ending her singing career, Ori worked at various companies in different industries. She shared, “If I could go back to that time, I would hug myself at the time. Despite my lack of skills, there are memories I don’t want to erase. Currently, I’m challenging myself with internet broadcasting.”
