Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has shared her harrowing experience of abuse at the hands of a former partner, admitting the trauma left her struggling to rebuild herself.

According to Page Six (Sept. 20, local time), Witherspoon opened up during a podcast appearance, saying: “After leaving an abusive relationship, I had to completely rewire my brain.”

This wasn’t the first time she addressed the issue. Back in 2018, during an interview with O Magazine, the actress revealed she had endured both physical and verbal abuse from an ex-boyfriend. “A boundary was crossed, and in that moment, my mind completely shifted. I knew it would be hard, but I couldn’t take it anymore. That experience held deep meaning for me,” she explained.

Recalling the ordeal, Witherspoon shared: “The things he said to me were so awful, I started believing they were true. It broke me down, and I had to change my entire way of thinking to recover.” She admitted that even after the relationship ended, she felt anxious for years: “It took me a very long time to become who I am today.”

The Oscar-winning actress reflected on her younger self, acknowledging how easy it is to fall into unhealthy relationships: “Sometimes you get into situations that aren’t right for you, and sometimes you can’t even see what’s really happening inside them.”

A Resilient Career Despite Personal Struggles

Reese Witherspoon, who made her debut in the 1991 film The Man in the Moon, rose to fame with hit movies like Legally Blonde, Vanity Fair, and This Means War. Beyond acting, she established her own production company in 2012, creating acclaimed projects such as Gone Girl, Wild, and the award-winning series Big Little Lies.

In her personal life, Witherspoon married actor Ryan Phillippe in 1999 after meeting on the set of Cruel Intentions. The couple had two children before divorcing in 2007. She later married talent agent Jim Toth, with whom she had a son, but the marriage ended in 2023 after 12 years. Currently, she is reported to be dating German financier Oliver Haarmann.
