Red Velvet’s Seulgi Recalls SM Audition, “I Waited But SM Didn’t Street Cast Me”

Red Velvet member Seulgi revealed how she became SM Entertainment trainee through the Saturday audition

On March 2nd, KBS 2TV’s “Immortal Songs” aired a special episode about TVXQ. Apart from TVXQ members, other junior singers, including ONF, ZB1, JD1, KARDI, La Poem, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Irene, also appeared on the broadcast.

During the broadcast, La Poem’s Park Ki-hoon confessed that he was street cast by SM in the past. He said, “I almost joined TVXQ’s company”, adding “It happened when I was in Grade 5. There was a public phone in front of my school and I was waiting for my friend there. Suddenly, a very cool person came and gave me their business card, saying ‘Do you have any thought of becoming a trainee or an idol?’.”

Hearing that, Seulgi, who passed SM’s open audition on Saturday, confessed, “I waited for them to cast me”. She continued, “I prepared myself that there might be people casting me in front of my school, but I didn’t get cast by SM. In the end, I went there myself”.

In response, Lee Chan-won wondered, “Even Seulgi had to go to the audition herself. Why did they cast Park Ki-hoon on the street?”. Kim Joon-hyun added, “I can’t believe it. If they saw Park Ki-hoon’s dance skills, they might have thought differently”, drawing laughter.

In addition, Seulgi revealed her close relationship with TVXQ, saying “TVXQ is our seniors but they’re almost like close brothers to us now. They call us ‘our daughters’ and take great care of us. That’s why we call them ‘dads’ instead of ‘brothers’.”
