Top 22 idols who need to improve their acting as voted by Koreans: Irene (Red Velvet) leads, Jisoo (BLACKPINK) enters the Top 5 after having her first female lead role
Korean netizens selected Red Velvet’s Irene as the idol whose acting needs the most improvement.
On January 17, Exciting DC, run by community portal site DC Inside and AI agency My Celebs, revealed the result for the poll ‘Which idol needs to improve their acting?’ with Red Velvet’s Irene getting the most votes. Voting took place for a total of 7 days from January 9 to January 15.
Irene, who tops this list with 11,216 (34.97%) votes out of 32,070 total votes, made her first screen debut as actress Bae Joohyun in the movie ‘Double Patty’. The female idol took on the challenge to play an aspiring anchorwoman in her debut film, but drew negative reviews for her awkward vocalization and unnatural expression.
Irene’s performance in ‘Double Patty’ also causes her to be voted the second worst actor of 2021 by film reporters at the Raspberry Film Festival.
Hyeri comes in second place in the poll with 3,537 (11.03%) votes. Hyeri, who received a lot of love for playing Duk Sun in tvN’s ‘Reply 1988‘, has been consistently engaging in acting activities by playing the female lead in tvN’s ‘My Roommate Is a Gumiho‘ and KBS’s ‘Moonshine‘.
However, Hyeri has been embroiled in controversy over her acting skills as the viewers claim “No matter what she does, she looks like Duk Sun”. In response, Hyeri drew attention by saying, “I think it’s because Duk Sun is so loved” adding, “It will change when the right time comes.”
Third place is SHINee’s Minho with 2,820 (8.79%) votes. Minho, who came under controversy for his acting skills in SBS’s ‘To the Beautiful You‘, was later praised for his stable performance in the movie ‘Derailed‘ and the drama ‘Lovestruck in the City’. Minho has successfully overcome prejudice against idol actors and was recently cast as the lead of Netflix’s upcoming series ‘Fabulous‘.
4th to 6th place in the poll’s result belong to AOA’s Seolhyun, Blackpink’s Jisoo, and Kim Wooseok, respectively.
