Red Velvet profile

Red Velvet is reportedly gearing up for a highly anticipated full-group comeback this August, marking the quintet’s first album release together in more than two years.

According to an exclusive report, the group is currently in the final stages of preparing a new album scheduled for release in August 2026. If confirmed, the project will be Red Velvet’s first full-group comeback since the release of their 10th-anniversary mini-album Cosmic in June 2024.

The upcoming comeback carries special significance because it will be the group’s first official release since members Wendy and Yeri departed SM Entertainment following the expiration of their exclusive contracts.

Red Velvet comeback

While both idols signed with new agencies to pursue individual activities, they repeatedly assured fans that Red Velvet would continue group promotions whenever possible. The reported August comeback appears set to fulfill that promise, reuniting all five members despite their different management situations.

For many fans, the release will serve as an important milestone proving that Red Velvet remains active as a group even as members pursue separate careers.

During the group’s hiatus, each member focused on expanding her individual career. Joy released her first solo mini-album, From Joy, With Love, in August 2025, while Wendy returned as a solo artist with her third mini-album, Cerulean Verge, the following month. Meanwhile, Yeri has continued building her acting career through projects including Invocation: The Ghost Game and Bitch X Rich 2. More recently, Irene released her first full-length solo album, Biggest Fan, while Yeri also gained attention through the drama Azure Spring. Joy has remained a familiar face on variety shows, and Wendy continues to connect with listeners as the host of a popular radio program.

Despite their busy individual schedules, the members have consistently demonstrated their close friendship and commitment to the group. The members recently showed support for Irene’s solo promotions by visiting music show recordings, while all five reunited earlier this year at Wendy’s solo concert, delighting fans with photos and videos from the gathering. Those moments reassured ReVeluvs that the group’s chemistry remains intact even during periods without official group activities.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the comeback is what musical direction Red Velvet will choose. Throughout their career, the group has built a unique identity by alternating between their signature “Red” and “Velvet” concepts. Their brighter and more energetic “Red” side produced hits such as Ice Cream Cake, Dumb Dumb, Red Flavor, Power Up, and Umpah Umpah. Meanwhile, the darker and more sophisticated “Velvet” concept helped define songs like Automatic, Peek-A-Boo, Bad Boy, and Psycho. The group has also successfully blended both styles through releases such as Russian Roulette, Queendom, Feel My Rhythm, and Cosmic.

The timing of the comeback has generated even more excitement among fans. Red Velvet has long been regarded as one of K-pop’s definitive summer groups, thanks to seasonal hits such as Red Flavor, Power Up, Zimzalabim, Feel My Rhythm, and Cosmic. With the new album reportedly arriving in August, many fans are anticipating another memorable summer anthem from the group often referred to as the “original summer queens” of K-pop.

Beyond their title tracks, Red Velvet has also earned a reputation for consistently strong B-sides and critically acclaimed albums, leading many listeners to expect another high-quality release.

As one of K-pop’s most influential girl groups enters a new chapter, all eyes are on Red Velvet to see what the five members will bring to the industry when they reunite on stage once again.
