“Reborn Rich” Song Joong Ki ignored his father’s stealing action and gave up on going to college in his poor life
Due to poverty, Song Joong Ki pretended that he didn’t see his father stealing things in the mart and eventually gave up on the college entrance exam.
The 9th episode of JTBC’s Fri-Sat-Sun drama “Reborn Rich” (written by Kim Tae Hee, Jang Eun Jae/ directed by Jung Dae Yoon, Kim Sang Ho) depicted the poor life that Yoon Hyun Woo (Song Joong Ki) experienced before being reincarnated into Jin Do Joon.
Jin Do Joon witnessed Jin Hwa Young (Kim Shin Rok), who failed in stock investment with the public funds of Sunyang Department Store, not being able to keep her promises of payments with her partners and neglecting their protest.
Jin Do Joon said, “I heard 140 billion won will help you solve the business payment problems. Just hand over the shares in Sunyang Department Store”. However, Jin Hwa Young boldly let go of everything that can make money and said she would solve the payment problem without handing over the shares within two months.
Jin Do Joon pointed to the protestors and continued, “Their two months are different from your two months, aunt. That two-month period is like the time for you to change your clothes, but poor people will become terribly poorer every day. Poverty leads to compound interest”. However, Jin Hwa Young reacted, “Are you saying that they can’t stand two months because they’re poor? They are already poor anyway. The reason Jin Do Joon was so angry resulted from the past when he lived as Yoon Hyun Woo. His family lived in the house where gas was cut off because his mother (Seo Jeong Yeon) died and they couldn’t pay taxes. There was no rice left in the house. The cruelest thing about being poor to Yoon Hyun Woo is that he saw his father (Lee Gyu Hee) stealing tuna cans when he went to a mart to buy daily necessities with the money he got from selling goods to a girl who had a crush on him. On the day of the college entrance exam, Yoon Hyun Woo couldn’t stand eating the kimchi stew that his father cooked with that the tuna he stole. Therefore, Yoon Hyun Woo decided to give up on the exam and went to work at the daily labor site.
The thing Yoon Hyun Woo gave up that day was the college entrance exam, not the four years of college. That morning, the only choice that Yoon Hyun Woo was allowed to make was to do his best and become poorer. That’s why Jin Do Joon, who learned from his past experience that time is not fair to everyone, couldn’t help but get angry at Jin Hwa Young, who stays shameless even though she caused damage to ordinary people with her faults.
Afterward, Jin Do Joon asked Jin Yang Chul (Lee Sung Min) to hold an emergency board meeting and proposed the resolution of removing Jin Hwa Young from her CEO position.
